This month’s sculpture started out from a large strawberry alabaster boulder weighing over 100lbs.
The stone was in an irregular square shape and after studying it for a while, I came up with an idea for a sculpture.
Since it was bulky, I wanted to create a something that would feel light and airy. As I began working on it, I decided to open the center of the stone with a large negative space which reduced the mass of the sculpture and gave it a more delicate feeling.
The final result became “Juxtaposition”.
This sculpture is on exhibit in the Annual Members Exhibit at the Center for Visual Arts in Bonita Springs where it won a merit award. This exhibition runs January 31- February 27,2020.
