Inspiration + Perspiration = “Yin Yang”

Alabaster is the common name for a soft, smooth, fine-grained sedimentary gypsum rock. Size and color vary widely ranging from opaque to very translucent depending on the region the stone was quarried. This month’s sculpture is a uniquely shaped stone.  As it started out and the color did not reveal itself until the final polishing was completed.  Picture one(left) shows the stone in the raw form.

When I chose the stone it had a round shape which I felt I could develop into a new form. As I worked on it, some ideas came to mind to enhance the design by creating flowing grooves which gave the sculpture some subtle movement. Picture 2 (right) shows the line added.
