So often, when we are “reaching for the sky”, we forget to look closest to where our feet are planted!  I learned this lesson recently while scouting the earth (via internet!) for the next unique piece of stone to sculpt.

Just by chance, I happened across a stone distributing company about two blocks from my Naples Studio. This neighborhood resource actually imports stones for various building fabrication and landscaping purposes. It never occurred to them to sell or even market their goods to a sculptor!  Well, what a find this turned out to be.  In one small area of their stock yard, there were several pieces of Turkish marble with veins of color that set my creativity juices on fire!  I purchased the stone and immediately began working with it.

The spectacular grey veining in this piece of Turkish marble actually guided me in form.  The completed work accentuates the stone’s innate beauty.  The flow of the design is significant as it is a mapping of how my energy flowed as I created this piece.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did creating it! I call it,  “REACHING FOR THE SKY”
