The Fundraising Committee at the Golisano Children’s Hospital, Fort Myers invited me to participate in a not-for-profit fundraising art project called “A Seahorse Dream”. Several months prior, this committee began looking for 50 businesses willing to sponsor 50 artists that would create their own unique seahorse statue. Each sponsor purchased a 5-foot-tall white poly resin seahorse for the artists. Each of these would then be custom painted and finished by the artists and auctioned off to the highest bidder. The culmination for this project was a festive gala where all proceeds from the bidding went to that worthy cause, the new Golisano Children’s Hospital.
The artist’s entrees were all juried. Each artist was asked to submit an 18” scale model of what the completed 5 foot seahorse would look like. My design was accepted and I went right to work. It was quite a fun project as I enjoyed working in a whimsical style plus the anticipation of the celebration once it was completed kept my creative juices flowing!
After having so much fun painting with this event, I became inspired to create my own sea horse using fused glass exclusively. I began to cut all of the pieces of glass separately which were then fused together in several firings to create the final result. The final fused glass creation took me approximately a year to complete. I’m proud to say it won FIRST Place at the Naples Art Association “Your Choice” exhibit this past fall. I invite you to enjoy viewing it in person at my gallery.
